Clara struggled to regain her balance on the edge of stairs.
The sleek white tiles felt slippery beneath her silk slippers.
Clara: Victoria, stop this right now before someone gets hurt!
Victoria: Nobody is coming to help you in this house today!
Victoria stepped forward and shoved Clara's shoulders once again.
Clara lost her handhold on the smooth carved wooden railing.
She tipped backward over the edge into the open air space.
A sharp scream escaped her throat as she began to fall.
She reached out desperately for anything to break her drop.
The white marble walls blurred together in a dizzying flash.
Downstairs in the foyer, the heavy double doors swung open wildly.
David rushed through the entrance wearing his dark business suit.
He heard the loud scream echo from the upper floor hallway.
He looked up and saw the terrifying scene unfolding right above.
David: Clara, hang on, I have got you covered!
David sprinted across the polished floor with incredible athletic speed.
He lunged forward across the slick marble just in time.
He extended his arms fully as Clara came crashing down toward floor.
The force of the catch sent both of them sliding across tiles.
They slid several feet before coming to a complete stop near rug.
David held Clara securely against his chest on the floor.
Clara gasped for breath while clutching his dark suit lapels.
Tears streamed down her pale cheeks as she stared at him.
Clara: You saved my life, David, thank you so much!
David: Are you injured anywhere, Clara, talk to me please?
Clara: My head is spinning, but I think I am okay.
David gently checked her arms for any serious broken bones.
His jaw clenched tightly as intense anger filled his dark eyes.
He looked up toward the second floor balcony above them.
Victoria was leaning over the top rail in shock and panic.
David: You crossed a dangerous line today, Victoria, you are done!
Victoria: It was an accident, David, she lost her balance!
David: I saw you push her with my own two eyes!
David pulled his smartphone out from his dark jacket pocket.
His fingers moved across the glass screen with fast precision.
He held the phone up to his ear with cold determination.
David: Get the police and an ambulance here immediately right now!
The operator on the line confirmed the emergency response team location.
David set the phone down and kept Clara cradled safely.
David: Help is coming right now, Clara, stay completely still.
Clara: I cannot believe my own sister would do this to me.
David: She will answer for everything she did to you today.
