Later that evening, Arthur sat in the nursery room holding Leo in his arms.
The soft glow of the nightlight illuminated the warm, peaceful room.
His estate lawyer, Mr. Harrison, sat in a chair across from him holding files.
"The police reviewed the footage from the grand hall, Arthur," Harrison said quietly.
"The evidence is absolute and completely undeniable in every respect."
"What happens next regarding the divorce and estate assets?" Arthur asked.
"Victoria will face severe criminal charges that carry significant prison time," Harrison explained.
"She will forfeit every single claim to your family fortune and real estate."
Arthur looked down at his sleeping boy, feeling a massive weight lift away.
The money meant nothing compared to the priceless life sleeping in his lap.
"I want all remaining assets locked into an untouched trust fund," Arthur requested.
"Leo will be fully protected for the rest of his natural life."
"I will draft those revised trust fund papers first thing tomorrow morning," Harrison agreed.
The lawyer packed his documents into his leather briefcase and stood up to leave.
"You are a good father, Arthur," Harrison added gently near the door.
"Your instincts saved that boy's life today in ways words cannot describe."
Arthur smiled softly, feeling genuine peace return to his heart at last.
After the lawyer left, Arthur rocked Leo gently back and forth in the chair.
He walked over to the large glass window overlooking the vast estate lawn.
The stars shone brightly in the clear Texas night sky above the trees.
He knew the road ahead as a single parent would have its difficult days.
He would need to rebuild his life from scratch on a foundation of truth.
Yet he felt no fear or regret as he kissed his baby's soft forehead.
"No one will ever hurt you as long as I am breathing, Leo," he whispered.
The baby cooed softly in his sleep, holding tightly onto Arthur's thumb.
Arthur held his son close, knowing that love and truth had finally won.
