The polished marble foyer of the Sterling estate in Dallas, Texas, was quiet under the warm afternoon light. A massive American flag hung proudly on the wall behind the grand staircase, its red, white, and blue colors reflecting off the gleaming white stone floor. High above on the second-floor balcony, Evelyn stood wearing an emerald green silk gown, her face twisted with a cold, desperate rage. In front of her stood Clara, wearing a simple white dress, her hands resting protectively over her visibly pregnant stomach.
Evelyn: You thought you could just walk into this family and claim everything Richard built?
Clara: Evelyn, please calm down! I only came here to drop off the legal papers Richard asked for!
Evelyn: Richard doesn't need anything from you! You are an outsider trying to steal our trust fund!
Clara: I am not stealing anything! The court ordered the DNA test to protect my baby's inheritance!
Evelyn: That baby will never see a single dollar of the Sterling estate!
Without another second of hesitation, Evelyn reached forward and delivered a violent shove directly to Clara's shoulders. Clara let out a sharp gasp as her feet lost their grip on the smooth marble edge. She tumbled backward down the long flight of stairs, her body striking the hard stone steps again and again until she landed crumpled and completely motionless at the bottom of the grand foyer. Evelyn stood frozen at the top of the landing, her eyes wide with sudden shock as the realization of what she had just done washed over her.
Before Evelyn could even move, the heavy front double doors of the mansion burst open with a loud slam. Richard Sterling, wearing a sharp charcoal grey suit, rushed into the bright foyer, his face dark with intense worry. His eyes locked onto Clara's motionless body lying on the cold marble floor, and a roar of pure fury erupted from his throat as he dropped to his knees beside her.
