Arthur: Hello, David? It's Arthur Vance.
David: Arthur, I need you at my house immediately. Bring the original probate files for my father's estate and call the district attorney.
Arthur: David, what happened? Is everything alright?
David: I found Lily, Arthur. She was locked inside the utility cabinet under my staircase.
Arthur: Good Lord... David, Sarah's daughter was at your house?
David: Victoria intercepted her three weeks ago and hid her to keep the trust fund from being activated.
Arthur: That is aggravated child endangerment and major fraud, David. I am calling Detective Miller at the precinct right now. I will be at your front door in ten minutes.
David: Thank you, Arthur. Please hurry.
David ended the call and slipped the smartphone back into his pocket. Victoria stood near the living room doorway, her body shaking with intense, desperate rage.
Victoria: You're really going to throw away ten years of marriage for a child you didn't even know existed an hour ago?
David: I'm throwing away a lie, Victoria. You kept my daughter away from me for ten years, and then you treated her like trash when she showed up on our doorstep.
Victoria: She threatened our financial survival!
David: Our financial survival was never in danger! We have millions of dollars! You were just consumed by your own disgusting greed!
Lily: Daddy... my head hurts...
David rushed back to the sofa, sitting down beside Lily and placing his hand gently on her forehead. She was burning up with a fever, her skin pale and clammy.
David: Victoria! Did you give her any medicine while she was in that closet?
Victoria: Why would I give her medicine? She was fine yesterday!
David: She has a high fever! You kept a sick child in a dark room with no air circulation for weeks!
Emily: Daddy, I tried to give her my water bottle, but the mean lady took it away...
David: You took her water bottle away, Victoria?!
Victoria: She was making too many trips to the bathroom! The noise was going to alert the housekeepers!
David looked at Victoria with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust. He picked Lily up in his arms, wrapping the blanket tightly around her frail frame.
David: If anything happens to my daughter, Victoria, I will make sure you spend the rest of your natural life behind bars.
