Evelyn ran down the remaining steps and threw her arms around David's shoulders.
She pointed forcefully at Clara who was still holding the child.
Evelyn: David, thank goodness you came back when you did!
David looked confused and held his wife by her waist.
David: Evelyn, calm down and tell me what happened here.
Evelyn: That crazy maid tried to hurt our daughter!
David's eyes widened in utter disbelief as he looked toward Clara.
David: Clara, is this true?
Clara stepped forward with firm steps despite her trembling body.
Clara: Mr. Sterling, that is a complete lie!
Evelyn: She grabbed Lily near the upper railing and caused her to slip!
Clara: She threw her off the balcony, I caught her in my arms!
Evelyn turned toward David with tears flowing down her face.
Evelyn: Why would I ever hurt my own stepdaughter?
Evelyn: This maid has been jealous of my position since the day I moved in!
Clara: I only care about Lily's safety, sir, please listen to your daughter!
David looked down at small Lily who was crying into Clara's neck.
He felt torn between his new wife and the loyal maid who served his family.
Evelyn stepped closer to Clara with anger burning in her eyes.
Evelyn: You are fired, get out of this house this instant!
Clara: You cannot fire me to hide your own terrible actions!
David held up his hand to stop the shouting back and forth.
David: Everyone stop yelling right now!
He walked over to Clara and gently took Lily into his arms.
Lily wrapped her small arms tightly around her father's neck.
David: Sweetheart, tell daddy what happened on the balcony.
Lily opened her mouth to speak but looked up at Evelyn.
Evelyn gave the young child a sharp, terrifying stare behind David's back.
Lily froze and buried her face back into her father's shoulder.
David: She is too traumatized to speak right now.
Evelyn: See, she is terrified because that maid frightened her!
Clara knew she was losing the argument against a wealthy woman.
She knew she needed solid proof to protect the child from future harm.
She remembered something important about the mansion's high-tech security system.
David had installed updated cameras near the ceilings three months ago.
Evelyn had always claimed those upper cameras were just empty plastic shells for show.
Clara wiped a tear from her cheek and stood up tall.
Clara: Check the security recording from the upper hallway, Mr. Sterling.
