Exposing the Imposter

A Wealthy Grandmother Discovers the Secret Her Family Tried Hiding

Twenty minutes later, the dark town car pulled up outside the glittering glass tower downtown.

The Vance Enterprise headquarters stood fifty stories high, an empire built on trust and honor.

Margaret pushed through the revolving glass doors, her cane making heavy sounds on the granite.

Security guards at the front desk bowed their heads respectfully as the founder marched right past.

She took the private executive elevator straight up to the top floor boardroom where Arthur worked.

Arthur Vance was sitting at the massive oak desk, chatting casually on his cell phone.

He looked sleek in his designer charcoal suit, acting like the undisputed king of the world.

When the heavy double doors flew open hard, Arthur looked up in immediate visual annoyance.

"Grandmother? What are you doing here without calling my assistant first?" Arthur asked, frowning slightly.

"Get off that phone right now, Arthur," Margaret said, her voice dropping into icy coldness.

Arthur laughed weakly, setting his phone down onto the leather blotter with a careless hand.

"You seem stressed today, Grandmother. Is everything alright down at your old home estate?"

Margaret walked straight to the desk and dropped Doctor Vance's thick medical file down hard.

The loud slap of paper on polished wood echoed across the massive, high-ceilinged executive room.

"Read it," Margaret commanded softly, standing over him like a statue made of solid stone.

Arthur picked up the white pages lazily, but his face paled as his eyes scanned lines.

"Where did you get this nonsense?" Arthur snapped quickly, trying to regain his dominant posture.

"Emily is unstable, Grandmother. She makes up terrible stories whenever she gets emotionally overwhelmed."

"Do not dare lie to my face, Arthur!" Margaret shouted, her voice echoing through doors.

"Doctor Vance examined her two hours ago. She is suffering from severe physical stress and neglect!"

"You locked her inside a cold room to force her to relinquish her inheritance trust!"

"She is carrying my great-grandchildren, and you treated her like an unwanted prisoner in secret!"

Arthur stood up quickly, his polite mask slipping away to reveal mean, sharp eyes beneath.

"So what if I pushed her hard? She was threatening to ruin my reputation downtown!"

"I run this company now, old woman! You gave me the voting shares last spring!"

"You cannot do a single thing to stop me from managing my own personal marriage!"
