Emily flinched backward automatically, pulling the thin cotton blanket tight against her shoulders and chest.
Tears flooded her eyes as she squeezed them shut, terrified of what might happen next today.
"I was too scared to tell anyone," Emily sobbed frantically, her whole body shaking with fear.
Margaret stepped toward the table instantly, her silver cane tapping hard against the polished floorboards.
Her cold expression melted away into deep shock as she looked directly at the helpless girl.
"Emily, child, look at me," Margaret commanded softly, taking Emily's freezing hand into her own.
"You are in a safe place now, and nobody in this world can harm you here."
"Arthur told me no one would ever believe me," Emily confessed through heavy, uncontrollable sobs.
"He locked me in the basement study without heat whenever I asked about my family trust."
"He said if I tried to leave, he would take my babies away forever using lawyers."
Doctor Vance set the probe down carefully on the tray, his face growing red with anger.
"This is severe exhaustion and systemic cruelty," Doctor Vance said, checking her vital health stats.
"Her blood pressure is dangerously low, and she is suffering from long-term severe physical stress."
Margaret stood motionless for three whole seconds, letting the horrifying truth settle deep into her mind.
Arthur was her own grandson, the man she had groomed to lead the family foundation forward.
She had trusted him completely, giving him control over several lucrative residential and commercial properties.
Yet behind closed doors, he was abusing his power against a vulnerable, helpless pregnant young mother.
The betrayal burned like hot iron deep inside Margaret's chest as she stood by Emily.
She remembered how Arthur had claimed Emily was taking long rest vacations away in the country.
It had all been a dark cover story designed to hide his total control over her life.
"Doctor Vance, write down every single mark and sign of stress in her medical report immediately."
"I will need an official physical document signed by you within the next ten minutes," Margaret said.
"I am already printing the emergency evaluation form right now, Mrs. Vance," the doctor replied.
Emily wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her sleeve, looking up with wide eyes.
"What are you going to do, Margaret?" Emily asked, her voice cracking under the tension.
"Arthur has the corporate lawyers on his side, and he controls all our joint bank accounts."
Margaret lifted her chin proudly, her sharp brown eyes blazing with cold, unwavering resolve today.
"He has money, but I own the entire foundation that gives him his fake authority," Margaret said.
"He mistook my quiet nature for weakness, but he is about to learn a lesson."
She turned her head slowly, looking out toward the long hospital corridor through the open door.
"This evil ends today!" Margaret declared, her powerful voice echoing off the plain white walls.
