A Husband Who Refused To Help

When His Mother Ruined My Wedding My Father Stepped In

The guests whispered loudly among themselves in utter disbelief.

Some people raised their phones to capture the ugly scene.

Sarah wiped her tear-stained face with her shaking hands.

She looked into Dev's eyes, desperately searching for courage.

Sarah: How could you let them do this to me?

Sarah: You stood there and watched everything burn!

Dev backed away slowly, holding his hands up defenselessly.

Dev: I never wanted any of this, Sarah!

Sarah: Then why aren't you saying anything to her?

Dev: She is my mother, Sarah, please understand!

Sarah: What about me and our unborn child, Dev?

Dev swallowed hard and looked away toward the garden trees.

Eleanor folded her arms proudly across her satin gown.

Eleanor: My son knows where his loyalty lies in this family!

Eleanor: You brought nothing into this marriage but debt!

Sarah stared at Eleanor with deep hurt and burning anger.

She had worked two jobs to support Dev through business school.

She had never asked his wealthy family for a single dime.

Yet Eleanor always treated her like a greedy stranger.

Sarah: I gave everything I had to help your son succeed!

Eleanor: Words are cheap, and so is that altered dress!

The insult echoed loudly across the quiet outdoor lawn.

Dev remained totally silent, refusing to meet Sarah's eyes.

Sarah realized her whole relationship was built on a lie.

She reached into her small clutch purse on the table.

Her hands shook violently as she pulled out her phone.

She pressed the top speed-dial contact on the screen.

She pressed the speaker button and held it close.

Sarah: Dad, please pick up! I need you right now!

The phone rang three times before a strong voice answered.

Arthur: Sweetheart, I am already at the main gate!

Sarah let out a heavy, sob-filled gasp of pure relief.

Her father was a hardworking truck fleet owner from Texas.

He had been delayed by heavy highway traffic miles away.

Now his voice sounded like a shield of absolute strength.

Sarah: Dad, they are trying to destroy our wedding!

Arthur: I am coming right now, hold on, Sarah!

The call disconnected as footsteps sounded on the gravel.
