The next morning, David called his family lawyer, Mr. Harrison.
They met at a quiet cafe in downtown Dallas near the court building.
Mr. Harrison opened a thick manila folder on the wooden table.
Harrison: David, I checked the accounts like you asked me to.
David: Did you find anything unusual about Lily's trust fund?
Harrison: Someone tried to change the secondary trustee three days ago.
David slammed his coffee cup down onto the saucers hard.
David: Was it Evelyn?
Harrison: The signature on the digital application matches her full legal name.
Harrison: She claimed to be the primary legal guardian of the child.
David: She is not Lily's legal guardian, only my wife!
Harrison: She also submitted a request to liquidate a small portion of the stocks.
David: How could she even access those private bank files?
Harrison: She must have found your private passwords inside your home office.
David put his head in his hands as realization washed over him.
Evelyn had not married him out of love or companionship at all.
She had targeted his family for the large estate and trust fund.
David: What can we do to protect Lily immediately, Harrison?
Harrison: File for a temporary restraining order and lock the bank accounts.
Harrison: Then you must file for a full annulment or divorce lawyer action.
David: I want her out of my home before nightfall.
Harrison: Be careful, David. She might get aggressive if backed into a corner.
David drove back to his house with a determined heart.
He pulled into the driveway and saw an unfamiliar dark sedan parked there.
He walked inside and heard loud voices coming from the study upstairs.
He moved up the stairs quietly and looked through the cracked door.
Evelyn was talking to a slick man wearing a cheap grey suit.
Evelyn: Did you get the forged guardianship papers ready yet?
Man: Yes, but if the husband checks the bank, we are finished.
Evelyn: Don't worry about David! He is completely clueless and weak.
