Pushed The Stroller Into The Deep Pool The Stepmother

The afternoon sun beat down on the flagstone patio behind the white mansion.

Victoria stood inches away from the deep end of the swimming pool in her green dress, her hands resting on the foam handle of the black stroller.

Inside the bassinet, four-month-old Toby blinked at the bright sky, sucking softly on his pacifier.

Victoria: You think your mother left you a fortune, don't you?

Victoria: You think you will grow up and take every dime of this estate.

She checked both sides of the patio, making sure the stone paths were clear.

Victoria: Accidents happen so fast when nobody is looking.

She shoved the stroller with both arms, sending the wheels rolling over the stone coping and straight into eight feet of water.

The heavy carriage hit the surface with a violent splash, flipping upside down as the dark water swallowed it.

Down by the outdoor kitchen, Elena dropped her cleaning basket, screaming at the top of her lungs.

Elena: The baby! Oh God, the baby!

Elena sprinted past the patio tables beneath the large American flag hanging from the terrace wall.

She kicked off her shoes, threw herself into the pool, and cut down through the churning blue water.

Her fingers fought with the plastic safety buckles at the bottom of the pool, unlatching the child just as the air left her lungs.

She kicked hard toward the sunlight, breaking the surface gasping and holding the wet infant above her head.

Elena: I saved him! She pushed him in!

The glass French doors flew open, and Robert Sterling strode out in his dark suit, his face frozen in pure shock.

Victoria: This is my son! Robert, the maid threw my baby in the water!

Elena stood shivering on the wet coping, her finger pointing straight up at the white CCTV dome on the stucco wall.

Elena: She tried to kill your son! Check the CCTV cameras!

Robert turned on Victoria, his open hand cutting through the air with a brutal crack that knocked her to the ground.

Victoria clutched her burning cheek on the wet flagstones, totally unaware that the safe in Robert's study held a secret that would destroy her forever.
