The sound of clapping filled the large backyard as the guests moved closer.
Several prominent business owners from Dallas walked up to shake Mark's hand.
Business Owner: We always knew Richard wanted his real family to have this place.
Mark: Thank you, sir. We just wanted to make things right today.
Sarah took a deep breath of the fresh Texas air and felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders.
She walked over to the edge of the patio where the staff stood nervously.
The waiters and kitchen staff looked worried about losing their jobs.
They had worked for Evelyn for months under terrible conditions.
Sarah smiled at them with true kindness in her eyes.
Sarah: Please do not worry, everyone. Your jobs are completely safe with us.
Head Chef: Thank you so much, Mrs. Davis.
Sarah: Could we please clean up this mess and bring out some fresh dessert for the kids?
Head Chef: Right away, ma'am!
The staff moved quickly and happily to clear away the broken glass and smashed cake.
They were relieved to finally have a kind boss who treated them with respect.
Mark carried Toby inside the main house to change his dirty suit pants.
They walked through the grand marble hallway that Sarah remembered from her childhood.
Evelyn and Victoria were upstairs, loudly slamming closet doors as they packed their bags.
Mark set Toby down on a plush sofa in the living room.
Mark: Stay right here for a minute, buddy.
Toby: Okay, Daddy.
Mark walked over to the grand staircase where Evelyn was carrying a large leather suitcase down.
She looked tired, angry, and completely defeated.
Evelyn: You think you won, don't you?
Mark: This was never a game to us, Evelyn.
Mark: You hurt my wife when her father died, and you tried to ruin my son today.
Evelyn: He was clumsy!
Mark: He is a seven-year-old child who did nothing wrong to you.
Evelyn set her heavy suitcase down on the marble floor with a loud thud.
Evelyn: I gave three years of my life to this family!
Mark: You gave three years to my father-in-law's bank account.
Mark: And you tried to steal an inheritance that belonged to a little boy.
Victoria came down the stairs behind her mother, carrying three expensive designer bags.
Victoria: Can we leave through the back gate so people don't take photos?
Mark: The driver is waiting for you at the side entrance right now.
Mark: You have ten minutes before the security locks change automatically.
Evelyn grabbed her suitcase handle tight, her knuckles turning white.
She knew Mark was not bluffing about the locks.
She had lost everything she fought so hard to steal through her own cruelty.
If she had simply been nice to the little boy, none of this would have happened today.
Her arrogance had destroyed her own evil plans right in front of the entire city.
Evelyn: Come on, Victoria. We are leaving.
The two women hurried down the side hallway toward the private exit.
The heavy oak side door closed behind them with a firm, final thud.
Mark stood alone in the quiet foyer for a moment, letting out a long breath.
He walked back into the living room where Toby was sitting patiently.
Sarah walked in from the patio, a gentle smile on her face.
Sarah: They are gone?
Mark: Yes, they just left through the side gate.
Sarah: I cannot believe it is finally over.
Mark: It is over, Sarah. The house is yours again.
Sarah wrapped her arms around her husband's neck and held him tight.
Sarah: Thank you for standing up for us out there.
Mark: Nobody hurts my family and gets away with it, ever.
Toby jumped off the sofa and ran over to hug both of his parents' legs.
Toby: Can I get my new cake now, Mommy?
Sarah laughed softly, her eyes filled with happy tears.
Sarah: Yes, sweetie. Let's go get the biggest slice of cake in the kitchen.
