Echoes of the Past

A Father Discovers The Truth About His Son's Nanny

Eleanor stood tall beside the polished mahogany desk in silence.

She adjusted her beige designer dress with trembling hands.

Eleanor: I wanted to spend a few days at my sister's house.

David: Without telling me or making any plans together?

Eleanor: You are always working late at the office anyway.

David: That gives you no right to take Leo away secretly.

Eleanor: I am his mother, David!

David: And I am his father who loves him deeply!

Eleanor took a slow step toward the window overlooking the lawn.

The sunlight caught the sparkling diamond on her ring finger.

Eleanor: You have been distant ever since Sarah arrived here.

David: What is that supposed to mean, Eleanor?

Eleanor: You listen to her advice more than mine now.

David: Sarah is a certified professional nanny hired to help.

Eleanor: She acts like she owns this house sometimes.

David: She takes wonderful care of our son every single day.

Eleanor: She is interfering in matters that do not concern her.

David shook his head in frustration at his wife's words.

He walked across the soft rug toward the glass window.

David: Sarah caught you trying to remove legal documents today.

Eleanor froze in place when he mentioned the legal documents.

Eleanor: I do not know what lies she told you.

David: I saw the desk drawer unlocked when I walked in.

David: You were looking for the trust fund paperwork, right?

Eleanor turned her back to him and folded her arms.

Eleanor: That trust fund belongs to my family heritage.

David: That fund was set up strictly for Leo's future.

Eleanor: I need access to those accounts for an emergency.

David: What kind of emergency requires taking legal papers quietly?

Eleanor did not answer his question directly right away.

She stared out at the quiet garden behind the mansion.

Eleanor: You never trusted my financial decisions, David.

David: Because you spent thousands without explaining where it went!

Eleanor: I made investments that simply did not turn out well.

David: Investments or paying off debts you never mentioned?

Eleanor turned back around with a glare in her eyes.

Eleanor: You have no proof of anything you are saying!

David: My lawyer called me two hours ago about bank transfers.

Eleanor gasped softly as her face lost all its color.

Eleanor: Why would your lawyer be looking into my accounts?

David: Because large sums were moved from the estate account.

Eleanor: That was an honest mistake by the bank teller.

David: Mistakes do not happen three times in a single month.

Eleanor: You are accusing me in my own home!

David: I am seeking the truth to protect my family.

Eleanor: That nanny is feeding you poison every single day.

David: Sarah only reported the strange bank letters that arrived.

Eleanor: She had no right to open my private mail!

David: It was addressed to the house trust fund account!

Eleanor walked quickly toward the open doorway with anger.

Eleanor: I will not stay here and be interrogated by you.

David: We are not finished talking about this, Eleanor!
