The Chain in the Foyer

A Cruel Heiress Paraded a Bruised Woman in Chains

Chloe: What is that stupid shiny piece of plastic supposed to be?

Serena: This isn't plastic, Chloe. Look at the seal.

Chloe: I don't care about your fake badge! You broke into my estate!

Serena: I didn't break in. I walked through the front doors on official business, and your bodyguards attacked me from behind.

Chloe: Because you don't belong in this neighborhood! Look at your clothes! You look like absolute trash!

Serena: My clothes are torn because three of your private security guards jumped me in the driveway before I could present my credentials.

Serena took two authoritative steps forward, her combat boots making heavy, firm thuds against the white marble tiles. The police officers standing near the American flag shifted uncomfortably, their eyes locking onto the glowing gold badge held firmly in her hand.

Officer Miller: Ma'am... lower the badge so we can verify the precinct clearance number.

Serena: Precinct clearance? Officer, I don't report to Dallas Metro. Look at the federal crest on the top border.

Officer Miller: Federal Internal Affairs Special Oversight... Oh, Lord.

Chloe: What are you talking about, Officer Miller?! Arrest her! She threatened me!

Officer Miller: Miss Vance... step back right now.

Chloe: Step back? In my own home?! My father pays your precinct's annual foundation budget!

Serena: Your father's foundation budget is currently under federal seizure, Chloe. That's why I'm here.

Chloe's face drained of all color. She took a quick step backward, her golden sequined gown catching on the edge of the discarded metal chain lying on the floor. Her heels slipped on a slick patch of blood, sending her collapsing backward onto the hard marble with a heavy, humiliating thud under the red emergency lights of the foyer.

Chloe: AAH! My leg! My gown!

Serena: Get up, Chloe. You're making a scene in front of your guests.

Chloe: You ruined my dress! You ruined my whole party! Somebody help me!

Serena: Nobody is going to help you today. The gravy train has officially crashed.

The bruised woman stood tall and composed in her torn tactical jacket, holding her gold badge high in the air as four uniformed officers moved past the revolving glass doors to surround the fallen heiress.

Serena: Now everyone tells the truth.

Chloe: You can't do this to me! My father is the most powerful CEO in Texas!

Serena: Your father was arrested at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport twenty minutes ago trying to board a private jet to Dubai.

Chloe: What?! You're lying! He's at a business meeting downtown!

Serena: His business meeting was with the Department of Justice, and it didn't go well for him.
