The Secret In The Safe

The Stepmother Dropped My Baby Before Finding Out Her True Secret

Victoria: Mark Lawson swore on his life that the Caribbean registry was cleared!

Julian: Mark kept the original marriage certificate locked in his desk to blackmail your father for three million dollars.

Victoria: That greedy, lying coward! He promised me the papers were burned in Nassau!

Julian: Mark surrendered every single document to the FBI this morning in exchange for full immunity.

Victoria: He gave you the Florida documents?!

Julian: Every single page, Victoria. Which means our wedding six months ago was a complete legal fraud.

Elena: Merciful God... She married you under a false name just to steal Maya's inheritance!

Victoria: Shut your mouth, maid! You have no right to speak on family matters!

Julian: Elena has more right to speak in this house than you do, Victoria.

Victoria: I am still entitled to the fifteen-million-dollar prenuptial settlement! You signed the guarantee!

Julian: A prenuptial agreement based on an illegal, bigamous marriage is completely null under federal statute.

Victoria: You planned this whole trap! You knew about Mark weeks ago and let me stay here anyway!

Julian: I needed to find out why your father was draining funds from our coastal shipping terminals, Victoria.

Victoria: My father was investing those funds! He was building a new naval supply route for our merger!

Julian: Your father was laundering eleven million dollars through offshore shell accounts in Panama.

Victoria gasped, her manicured fingers clawing at the marble floor as her arrogance crumbled into naked panic.

Victoria: Eleven million dollars... My father told me the shipping market took a downturn!

Julian: Your father used my company as his personal piggy bank, and he sent you here to make sure the debt was erased.

Victoria: I loved you, Julian! I really did love you when we first met at the country club!

Julian: You didn't love me, Victoria. You loved the sixty-million-dollar estate trust Clara left behind.

Victoria: That trust belonged to your family! Clara was a penniless orphan who brought nothing to this marriage!

Julian: Clara brought honor, love, and a brilliant mind. Things your corrupt family will never understand.

Victoria: Clara died broke! Her daughter is a complication that ruined everything we were building!

Julian: That complication is the sole legal owner of every single brick in this mansion, Victoria.

Victoria: She owns nothing until she turns twenty-one! And as her stepmother, I had full parental guardianship rights!

Julian: You had zero rights, Victoria. And after what you did five minutes ago, your only right is a public defender.

The heavy front doors chimed as Mrs. Gable, the longtime head housekeeper, rushed into the foyer carrying a warm blanket.

Mrs. Gable: Mr. Sterling! I heard the screaming from the pantry! Is little Maya alright?!

Julian: Take Maya into the nursery, Martha. Keep her warm and do not let anyone near her.

Mrs. Gable: Come to Nana, my sweet angel. Oh, thank God you caught her, Elena!

Mrs. Gable scooped the infant into her arms, shooting a look of pure disgust at the woman on the floor.

Victoria: Mrs. Gable has no authority in this house! I dismissed her this morning!

Julian: Mrs. Gable has worked for my family for twenty-five years, Victoria. You don't dismiss anyone.

Mrs. Gable carried the crying baby up the back stairs, the door clicking securely shut behind her.

Victoria pushed herself up against the wall, her dark green satin dress coated in white floor dust.

Victoria: You can't prove I threw her, Julian! It's your word and an ignorant maid's word against mine!

Julian: Look up at the center carved medallion above the foyer chandelier, Victoria.

Victoria froze, slowly tilting her head back to look at the ornate plasterwork thirty feet above.

Concealed inside the decorative scrollwork was a tiny, high-definition satellite camera pulsing with a steady blue diode.

Julian: That camera uploads forty-eight frames per second directly to the United States Attorney's secure server downtown.

Victoria's hands dropped to her sides, the color draining from her face as the grand foyer fell deathly quiet.
