Victoria: Daniel, please! Look at me! I did it for us! I did it for our future!
Daniel: You forged my dying father's signature so you could divert sixty percent of the family trust fund into an offshore shell company in your own name!
Victoria: Your father was losing his mind! He was going to give half of his fortune to Elena's illegitimate child!
Daniel: Sophie is not illegitimate! Elena was legally married to her husband in Virginia before he died in the military!
Victoria: That doesn't matter! They were going to drain our estate! We would have lost the mansion, the cars, the Dallas country club membership!
Daniel: You care more about a country club membership than basic human morality!
Victoria: I gave you five years of my youth, Daniel! I managed this estate! I hosted every charity dinner! I earned that money!
Daniel: You didn't earn anything! You stole from a dying man, you stole from my sister, and today you tried to murder a four-year-old child to keep your secret hidden!
Daniel reached into his pocket and pulled out his smartphone, his thumbs moving quickly across the glass screen as he dialed three numbers.
Victoria: Who are you calling? Daniel, put that phone down right now!
Daniel: I'm calling the Dallas Police Department. And then I'm calling Detective Miller.
Victoria: You wouldn't dare call the cops on your own wife! Think about the headlines in the papers tomorrow! The Sterling name will be dragged through the mud!
Daniel: The Sterling name was dragged through the mud the day I let you cross the threshold of this house.
Daniel held the phone to his ear, keeping one hand wrapped firmly around Sophie's towel as the child rested her head against his chest.
Dispatcher: 911 emergency, what is your location?
Daniel: I am at the Sterling Manor on Oak Ridge Drive. I need armed officers at the pool deck immediately. My wife just attempted to drown a child, and I have digital proof of major financial fraud and grand larceny.
Victoria: Hang up! Hang up that phone, you fool!
Victoria lunged forward across the stone deck, her manicured nails reaching out to snatch the smartphone from Daniel's grip. But Daniel stepped aside easily, shoving her back with a firm forearm.
Daniel: Stay back, Victoria! Don't touch me or this child again!
Dispatcher: Sir, stay on the line. Patrol units are two minutes away from your location.
Daniel: Thank you. The suspect is on the pool deck. She is cooperative for now, but she is a flight risk.
Daniel ended the call and tossed his phone onto the lounge chair beside Sophie. Victoria backed away toward the pergola, her eyes darting frantically toward the side driveway where her sports car was parked.
Victoria: You think you've won, Daniel? My father is one of the most powerful corporate attorneys in Texas! He will destroy you in court!
Daniel: Let him try. I have the security video of you pushing Sophie, I have the stolen decoding drive, and I have the original bank records certified by the state prosecutor.
Victoria: That video proves nothing! I was trying to catch her before she fell!
Daniel: Save your ridiculous excuses for the jury, Victoria. You're finished.
