Mark helped Clara sit up carefully on the wide marble floor tiles.
He made sure she could stand safely on her feet before turning away.
Mark: Stay right here, Clara. Do not move.
Clara: Mark, please be careful with her!
Mark: She has gone too far this time, and it ends right now.
Mark stood up to his full height with anger burning in his eyes.
He looked up toward Eleanor, who still held the stolen drive in her hand.
Mark: I will handle her.
His dark leather jacket rustled as he took long steps toward the staircase.
He began marching up the marble steps with purpose and unwavering focus.
Eleanor did not back away or show any immediate sign of deep regret.
She clutched the small metal piece tightly inside her right jacket pocket.
Eleanor: You have no business interfering in family legal matters, Mark.
Mark: You almost killed her over a financial trust fund, Eleanor!
Eleanor: She tripped on her own heavy dress while making a dramatic scene.
Mark: I saw what you did with those gold scissors with my own eyes.
Mark reached the top of the grand staircase landing within a few seconds.
He stood directly between Eleanor and the long hallway leading to her bedroom.
The American flag hung prominently on the wall behind them in the upper foyer.
Mark: Hand over the drive you stole from her mother's necklace.
Eleanor: I don't know what foolish drive you are talking about.
Mark: We both know that microchip contains the true bank account statements.
Eleanor took a quick step back toward the wall while gripping her pocket.
Eleanor: My late husband left this entire estate to me in his will!
Mark: He left it to Clara, and you forged his final signature!
Eleanor's face paled slightly as Mark spoke those sharp words aloud.
Down below, Clara walked toward the bottom step while holding the banister.
Clara: We have the forensic paperwork coming from the city lawyer today, Eleanor!
Eleanor: That paperwork means nothing without the master digital key!
Mark: Which is currently sitting right inside your pocket.
Mark stepped forward and reached out his hand toward Eleanor's coat.
Eleanor: Get your hands away from me this instant!
Mark: You are not walking out of this mansion with Clara's inheritance.
Eleanor backed up until her shoulders hit the grand framed painting behind her.
She realized she had nowhere left to run inside the narrow upper hallway.
Eleanor: I built this life with him! I deserve every single dollar!
Mark: You stole from his only daughter while he was still sick in bed.
Clara began climbing the steps slowly to join Mark at the landing.
She picked up two loose pearls along the way and held them tightly.
Clara: Give it back, Eleanor, before the police arrive at the front gate.
Eleanor: You called the police to this private family home?
Mark: They are already on their way here right now.
Eleanor looked back and forth between Mark and Clara with growing panic.
Her smug expression completely crumbled into a look of absolute desperation.
