Mark stood tall and towered over Sarah with his jaw clenched tightly in extreme rage.
"You put your hands on my innocent baby girl!" Mark shouted, his eyes glaring intensely.
"It was an accident, she was misbehaving!" Sarah lied quickly while stepping farther back.
"She is an infant who cannot even walk yet!" I yelled while holding Lily tightly.
Lily continued to sob loudly, her tiny body shaking against my chest with fear.
Mark pointed his large index finger directly at the front front door of our home.
"Get out of my house before I lose my mind completely!" Mark demanded coldly.
"You cannot kick me out on Christmas Day, Mark!" Sarah protested with loud shock.
"Watch me do it right now!" Mark barked back without a single second of hesitation.
My brother David opened the front door right at that exact chaotic moment.
He was holding a heavy silver gravy boat and a large wrapped gift box.
David looked around the messy room with a deeply confused expression on his face.
"What on earth is happening in here? Why is everyone screaming?" David asked nervously.
"Your wife just grabbed and terrified our baby daughter over a broken dish!" I explained.
David dropped his head in complete embarrassment and looked directly at his pale wife.
"Sarah, tell me you did not do something so terrible to little Lily," David pleaded.
Sarah folded her arms defensively across her mustard yellow sweater without answering him.
"She ruined my family heirloom and nobody even cares about my feelings!" Sarah yelled out.
David let out a long, heavy sigh and rubbed his tired eyes with both hands.
"This is not about a dish, Sarah, this is about your terrible temper!" David said.
Mark picked up Sarah's heavy winter coat from the hallway couch and threw it toward her.
"Take your coat and leave immediately, Sarah!" Mark ordered in a firm voice.
Sarah snatched her coat off the floor with a furious look in her sharp eyes.
"You are all completely insane and overly sensitive!" Sarah screamed as she walked out.
She slammed the front door so hard that the wreath hanging on it fell off.
David stood frozen in the middle of the foyer with an utterly broken heart.
He looked at my crying daughter and then looked back at the closed front door.
"I am so sorry, Elena," David whispered with deep pain evident in his cracking voice.
The silence that followed was heavy and deeply uncomfortable for everyone present.
