Two police cruisers pulled up the long circular driveway within ten minutes.
Officer Miller and Officer Ramirez walked quickly up the front steps.
David opened the massive oak door while keeping Leo behind him.
Officer Miller: We received an emergency call regarding an assault on a minor.
David: My mother lunged at my son on the staircase landing.
Eleanor walked down the stairs slowly with her arms folded tight.
Eleanor: This is a private family dispute inside my own residence.
Officer Ramirez: Ma'am, please step back and stay calm while we investigate.
Eleanor: My son is making up wild stories to steal my late husband's money!
David handed Leo a small juice box from his bag to comfort him.
David: Look at the security cameras in the corner of the foyer.
Officer Miller looked up at the small black camera lens mounted high above.
Officer Miller: Is that surveillance system currently recording, ma'am?
Eleanor turned slightly pale and adjusted her gold necklace nervously.
Eleanor: The system is undergoing routine maintenance today.
David: She is lying because she knows the video shows everything clearly.
Officer Ramirez took out a small black notebook and a pen.
Officer Ramirez: Who else resides inside this house besides you two?
David: My younger brother Richard lives in the east wing.
At that moment, Richard Vance walked down the main hallway looking concerned.
Richard: What is going on with all these police officers here?
David: Eleanor tried to harm Leo on the stairs, Richard.
Richard: Mother, did you lose your temper over the trust fund again?
Eleanor glared at both her sons with cold defiance in her eyes.
Eleanor: I am protecting the family business from fraudulent claims!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, we need to inspect the video recording room right now.
Eleanor stepped in front of the hallway door to block them.
Eleanor: You have no search warrant for my private office!
Officer Miller: Sir, as a co-owner of the property, can you grant access?
David: I own forty percent of this house through my father's will.
David walked past his mother and unlocked the security control room door.
