Arthur Vance sat quietly in his high wheelchair while looking out at his guests.
The grand mansion hall was filled with soft chatter and bright sunlight today.
His sweet five-year-old daughter Lily knelt on the shiny marble floor beside him.
She held a small metallic bowl filled with warm soapy water in her tiny hands.
Arthur had lost the feeling in his legs six long months ago without warning.
The doctors said his illness was very rare and completely untreatable back then.
His younger brother Richard stood near the archway holding a glass of juice.
Richard smiled warmly at the crowd but his eyes remained strangely cool and distant.
Lily dipped her small soft hands into the soapy water with great care.
Lily: I am going to make your feet feel all better now.
Arthur: Thank you my sweet girl.
Lily: Jesus said washing feet brings big miracles to good people.
Arthur touched her soft pigtails and smiled gently at her innocence.
Arthur: You have the kindest heart in this entire house.
Dr. Evans entered the bright room carrying a heavy leather briefcase.
He walked quickly toward Arthur with a tight expression on his face.
Dr. Evans: It is time for your afternoon medicine Mr. Vance.
Arthur: We can wait a few minutes until Lily finishes.
Dr. Evans: Your schedule must be followed very strictly every single day.
The doctor reached into his white coat pocket to pull out a small glass bottle.
His fingers slipped slightly as he adjusted his heavy black spectacles.
A tiny round object fell unnoticed into the metallic water bowl below.
Lily blinked her bright eyes as she felt something hard touch her toes.
She reached down into the soapy bubbles and picked up the strange tiny object.
Lily: Look Daddy what dropped into my water bowl!
Arthur leaned forward slowly and peered down at his daughter tiny palm.
Arthur: Lily... what did you find in there?
Lily: The doctor dropped this right into the bowl!
Dr. Evans froze completely in his tracks as his face turned pale white.
He reached down quickly toward the little girl with an outstretched hand.
Dr. Evans: Give that to me immediately little girl!
Arthur: Stop right where you are Dr. Evans.
Arthur took the tiny white pill gently from his daughter wet hand.
He noticed a small star symbol stamped onto the smooth surface of the tablet.
This was not the usual vitamin pill he took every single afternoon.
Arthur: Why were you holding this tablet in your pocket doctor?
Dr. Evans: That is just a simple nerve supplement for your recovery.
Arthur: My regular supplement pills are yellow and twice this size.
Richard hurried across the marble floor with a nervous look on his face.
Richard: Do not make a public scene in front of our guests Arthur.
Arthur: Something is very wrong here and I intend to find out.
Lily looked up at her father with complete trust in her eyes.
Lily: Is the medicine going to help you walk again Daddy?
Arthur squeezed his daughter tiny hand tightly and looked at the cold doctor.
Arthur: We are going to test this pill right now.
